What's in your purse?

My mom has some stepping stones that needed some refreshening. Over the years the sun, wind and rain has removed the coloring from them. She had leaned them up up against the side of the garage in hopes of getting to them soon. I figured I'd surprise her. Here's the before:

And the after:

The other day we were in Sam's because we want to get a fridge for camp. Our camper has a fridge in it but we want one for the screen room outside to keep beer and water in. Anyhoooooo, we were at Sam's waaaaay down in the back of the store when Gary askes me to go to the service desk to ask a question about the fridge. Namely, when the hell they will have some in stock.....

Me: "Fine, Gary. I'll walk up there. Will you watch my pocketbook if I leave it here in the buggy?"

Gary: "Of course. What do I look like, an idiot?"

I stroll up to the service desk and speak to the gentleman working there. He informs me that in order to even begin to slightly comprehend what I'm talking about I need to walk all the way to the back of the store AGAIN and bring him the little white item card from where the fridge is on display. Little did I know that Gary had already thought of that and was on his way to the front of the store with it. I met him halfway, he with the card and no buggy... which meant NO POCKETBOOK... which meant MY POCKETBOOK was in a buggy, in the back of Sam's. I immediately went into high speed come apart mode which meant that Gary's ears began bleeding from the screeching I was doing. I couldn't help it. My pocketbook holds my life in it. Not to sound melodramatic but I have crossed over to the mom side. You know that side where, before kids, you carry this little purse with a lipstick and driver's license in it and then after kids you carry a diaper bag with changes of clothing (for everyone), diapers, bottles, snacks, toys, wipes. Well, the diaper bag really never disappears.... it morphs into a Mom Purse...... complete with everything to calm, soothe, suture, floss, brush, pluck, swab, wipe and disinfect... for everyone. We carry backache, headache, and allergy pills. We have tampons, pads, Midol and Rolaids. Not to mention.... debit cards, library cards, insurance cards, and a deck of cards. Back to the story..... my pocket book was safe and sound. No identity theft or missing Chiclets. However, I think Gary has a new appreciation for my purse and its meaning to me.

As Capital One says...... What's in your purse?

Mine has makeup I NEVER wear, but I swear I can't be caught dead without it; perfume, which you can't smell on me because I smoke; all the bills I owe, because SOON I'm going to pay them; millions of pens, because I never remember if I have one or not; coupons, credit cards, 800,000 pennies, gum, mints, a brush, a mirror, 4 different kinds of medicine, 2 cell phones, my wallet, fingernail clippers, nail polish, batteries, and hand lotion.

Dude, I gotta get a deck of cards...

Those stepping stones are beautiful! I have never seen any like those.

As soon as you said you had him watch your purse, I knew where that was heading. I cannot even begin to imagine the inconvenience (and heartache) of losing my purse.

I fondly remember carrying a small purse. Now I carry everyone else's crap. There are action figures, plastic baby bottles, plastic necklaces (not mine!) M's glucose tabs and sometimes his 'clicker and strips' if he doesn't have a pocket. Basically, the routine goes, "Here Mom, put this in your purse." If it wasn't for my wallet I don't think I'd have anything that was mine in my purse.

I finally splurged and bought myself a vintage Coach Wilton purse -- it's like a mini-briefcase. I don't carry a lot in it, but I'd cry over losing it. =)

LOL...I've never carried a purse much, since I'm really bad about leaving it behind somewhere. I take my basics with me in pockets...Driver's license, keys and money.

BUT...since getting Meghan, the diaper bag goes with us everywhere, and yeah, everything goes in there! Funny, I've never left it behind.

I wanted to stop by and say Thank You for your nice email you sent regarding our adoption. You gave me warm fuzzies and put a smile on my face. It's always nice to know someone out there understands what I've been through to get my Mommy title. :) Thank you!

p.s. I've bookmarked you to add to my blogroll. :)
