The Three Lovers

I've got this little friend that comes to my bird feeder each morning. He spends about 30 minutes scratching and pecking the ground, greedily eating the seeds dropped by the smaller birds from the feeder above. I don't know where he came from because ring-necked pheasants are not native to Maine. You have to buy them and release them into the wild. Here's some other pictures of my daily visitors.

And just because I thought this joke was a riot (thanks Mel!), I want to share it with you:

The Three Lovers

The Italian says, "When I've a finished making love with my wife, I go down and gently tickle the back of her knees and she floats 6 inches above the bed in ecstasy."

The Frenchman replies, "That is nothing. When I've finished making love with the wife, I kiss all the way down her body and then I lick the soles of her feet with my tongue and she floats 12 inches above the bed in pure ecstasy."

The Redneck says, "That ain't nothin'. When I've finished porkin' the ol' lady, I git outta bed, walk over to the winder an' wipe my weener on the curtains. She hits the freakin' ceiling."

I love it too...IN fact I put it on my site too. Always considered Lloyd a redneck...but I guess he's really NOT. Loved the pics.

I used to bird watch for hours growing up. I kind of miss those days of quiet and sitting at the kitchen table with my parents just watching the birds. You have made me want to rethink this and maybe do it some more!

Beautiful Pics Sheri. I am an avid bird-watcher and I have been very lonely all winter...for some reason they just aren't coming around. I figure it's either the bizarre weather or too many people feeding in the area. I don't know...I sure do miss it though.

Just a bit on info for you...Ring-necks ARE in Maine. On Ilseboro just off the coast at Lincolnville, there are quite a few. I'd be willing to bet that a few of the "released" birds have started to make Maine thier home. Most of the pheasant up this way are NOT ring-necks, but rest assured that there are a few.

Continue to enjoy nature my friend...it's beautiful'

Julie - Yes, I know there are ring-necks in Maine but what I meant to say (and should have elaborated more) is that they are not native to Maine, or the North American continent for that matter. They were brought here from Asia in the mid 1880's.

They sure are beautiful though.

Great pictures! That is one fat squirrel.

I would love to feed the birds, but it seems like entrapment with all the cats. The cats kill enough wildlife on their own (mainly squirrels) without me helping.

We've begun to see all sorts of critters here too, and the crocus and other bulbs are starting to sprout, but it is snowing...

Ahhh, all the photos remind me of what I miss about living in the middle of nowhere. I grew up for the most part in the woods and always saw phesants, grouse, deer, squirrels, song birds and just about every other NorthEastern wildlife.

If you spend your time munching seeds in Sheri's yard, wearing nothing but the plumage you were born in, you might just be a ring-neck.
