Image hosted by Photobucket.com Blogging has become such fun for me. I spend time during my day thinking "Oh, that would make a good idea to blog about" and I quickly have to write it down or I"ll forget about it. I then come to my computer with this great idea and sit here just staring at the screen as the words won't form into anything coherent that I think someone else might find interesting.

I have 'met' some wonderful people from all walks of life and different parts of the country. Usually I find that women's blogs appeal to me because the topics covered are usually things I, as a woman, are familiar with and can find the humor in. However, I want to share a few blogs that I've really found very interesting. I have been reading the blog of Scotty, a man from Indiana. He was married for some time, has 3 children, a vile ex, cool parents and now lives with his partner, Joel. He shares his day to day drama, holding nothing back (you've been warned!).

Kim is one of my all time favorites. Wow - is she funny and always has an endless supply of stuff to write about. She's a party queen and mother of 10 (not a typo).

Cecily is also a fun writer. She's very political and outspoken which I find refreshing. She just moved into a new home in the 'burbs and will have lots to share about that!

There - I've done my complimenting for the day and will get on to other things on the agenda. I went to Kohls the other day to get a pair of sandals. Do you know that store already has the fall stuff out? What in the world is up with that? I have to tell you that is one of my pet peeves. If it's August, I think I should be able to go into a store and get some flipflops or a pair of shorts, without having to scrounge through the picked over clearance stuff. Nope, not gonna happen. However, if I want a hunting vest or a turtleneck, they've got 'em! Can you say aggravating!!?

Hannah had her yearly eye check-up last week and she has another prescription change. We are going to go later this week and pick out some new frames and she'll use her current pair as a backup. I think she'll probably get the same frames again. She really likes them and has received many compliments on how nice they look on her. Don't they look good? I read an amazing article on children and eye exams. It said many children with vision problems go undiagnosed until they are around 10 years old. By then, they are far behind or other problems have manifested to compensate for poor vision. For instance, if a child always has difficulty seeing and can't do their work, they might be labeled as learning disabled in some way. We noticed a problem with Hannah focusing when she was around 2 but her pediatrician never thought there was an issue. We finally took her to an eye doctor for an exam, because we felt something wasn't right. The doctor dilated her pupils with drops and tested her eyes that way. She is very farsighted, with an astigmatism and has been wearing glasses since she was three. Gary and I were talking the other day about the 1st time she had her glasses put on. The look on her face was priceless. It was if she was seeing for the first time. In all reality, she probably was seeing clearly for the first time. This is a picture of how a mild astigmatism effects vision.

My son was diagnosed early with some vision problems. Even though he had a slight prescription, he said he could really see for the first time ever. =O

Anyhow, I'll have to check out those blogs. Thanks!

hehe~ aren't you the sweetheart? I'm glad you said I'm the party queen and not the dancin' queen... as I can't dance to save my life and hate ABBA. Thanks Sheri, you're the best.

I remember the first time I wore glasses, I was amazed to see that trees had leaves, I thought they were just big green blobs. I was in 3rd grade at the time, I'm sure I got teased about my glasses, but I was just so happy to see that I didn't care.

Oh man, I was JUST complaining about the fall/winter stuff being out already! I went to Fred Meyer (probably a lot like Kohls) and was all excited that they had restocked a display of t-shirts that I really liked.... and there was one in a color I LOVE and in MY size!! WOOO HOOO!!!! Imagine my horror when I went into the dressing room (with my mom who was trying on something) and I happened to notice that it had LONG SLEEVES!!! WAAAAHHHH!!!!! I didn't buy it.... It is nearly 100 degrees here today -- I wanted a T shirt, not to roast alive!!! I guess I kind of understand why stores do that, but I wish it was more of a gradual transition...

I got my first pair of glasses when I was 9 and promptly refused to wear them for the next three years. I was more consious of the way I looked than being able to see. I must admit I got over it somewhat. I still try to find the best frames for my face though.
I'm glad she doesn't mind wearing hers.

For this trip I am taking i went to Kohl's as well to get some new shorts -- not only did they not have any on clearance, they didnt have any on the floor at all! I wound up compromising with some kind of funky ones from Lane Bryant (I had wanted to go conservative, after all at this thing I am the insurance claims supervisor's wife!). Oh well...
