A dog's first impression

Here's a picture of Lucy in his favorite and only spot to relax in the house. We got Lucy as a tiny kitten. She was living in a pigstall with some pigs and was the tiniest little thing. Hannah fell in love with her. I say her because that's what the farmer told us 'she' was. I didn't bother checking because if a farmer couldn't tell....there's something wrong here. Dr. Joe came to the house to do the appropriate vaccinations and declared that we might want to change the kitty's name to Lucifer because she was a he. Hannah freaked and would have no part of that and the name Lucy would remain. We still get a little confused and call Lucy a she but he doesn't seem to mind, actually he/she kind of grows on you after a while. Our other cat, Blue accepted Lucy just fine as long as he was given a wide berth. Then came Chloe and that's where the fun begins.

We got Chloe as a tiny puppy, just 7 weeks old. When she came into the house, she saw Lucy and exclaimed "Wow! A cat! And it runs!!" and promptly began to chase Lucy around in circles until Lucy frantically threw himself through the cat door (which is a hole we cut in the cellar door so the cats have access to their kittybox in the winter) and down the stairs. Chloe stuck her head through the hole and barked at Lucy but he wouldn't come back up. Meanwhile, Blue sauntered into the kitchen to see what all the racket was about and gave Chloe the curious eye as if to say "Now, what do we have here that I need to take care of? ". Chloe said "Wow! A cat!! and ran to Blue who promptly introduced himself as the boss by cuffing and scratching the shit out of the dog. Much yelping and ki-yaying later, Chloe would still not go near Blue. To this day all Blue has to do is look at Chloe and Chloe backs down. Lucy, on the other hand, is now a spastic, shaking nervebag who doesn't travel more than a few feet from the cellar door, lest he be caught WITH THE DOG being chased round and round until he is totally insane. If only Lucy had given Chloe a different first impression. If only he had joined with his brother Blue in laying down the law from the get-go, he too could be sauntering around with Blue...tail held high....as a king of the house.

Like your "new picture" I know it's been a while since I've seen you in person, but I remember you being much taller. Mel

My parents dog is named Rufus. It's a girl dog. My Dad just decided it should be Rufus, and my mom couldn't change his mind. :)

Lucy sounds like my Gaidion, he would be just as bad around dogs, however Lancelot would be like Blue and show the mut who is boss. HA HA HA
Love the new pic.

I had a cat named Abu because we were told "it" was a HE... but was really a SHE... the name stuck though. I really love your writing, Sheri. You're so funny!

When we were younger, my brother and I had two hamsters. We were told Fluffy was the girl and Bud was the boy. It's pretty hard to tell the sec of a hamster. :)

Well, several months later, Bud popped out some babies and well, we figured out the store got it wrong.

It was fun to run around the house screaming "Bud's having babies!!"
