Yogurt Woes

It is so cold out. The temp is only 8 and the wind is howling like a banshee. Hannah and I bundled up to go out to the bus stop this morning and of course the bus was a few minutes late. Oh well, we had fun pretending to be dragons. Our fire breathing ability was enhanced by our warm breath in the frigid air as great puffs of 'fire' billowed upward. I had almost hyperventilated by the time the bus had come. I had visions of me walking back to house, dizzy, falling down in the driveway and no one missing me until some kid at school started screaming for more ketchup.

Did you know 250 kids can eat 1.5 gallons of ketchup a day? I had no idea. There's no getting around it either. They want it on their chicken burgers, french fries, pretzels, carrot sticks, pizza and mashed potato. I even saw a kid putting it on his pasta alfredo on pasta day. Doesn't that sound yummy? And then there is the ranch dressing.... now we are talkin'! At least a gallon of that per day too. And we wonder why our school budgets are out of whack.

Last week, the kids lost their yogurt privileges. Yes, I know this sounds utterly cruel but a little explanation.... Having an ala carte food area in a school is a privilege. Schools are required to provide a lunch meal to the kids, not a side area buffet that puts a cruise line to shame. I hate ala carte. I think it's an unnecessary waste of time and at our school, it requires 2 full time workers to cook and manage and watch over it so we don't get ripped off continually. Anyhoo..... our future leaders of America have decided that buying YoCrunch Yogurts, eating the yogurt and then refilling the container with chewed food, popping the crunchy topping container back on and sneaking it back in the cooler for another kid to buy is the funniest thing. Gross and stupid. We've had to remove all the yogurt and now they complain about that.

Gary called from Florida and is having a good time. I can tell by his voice though that he is missing home. I always know that a week is too long for him to be gone but does he listen to me????

Back in my day, we didn't have no stinkin' YoCrunch Yogurts. We ate plain cottage cheese with dirty spoons, and we liked it!

Future leaders of America -- that's funny.

My son is a ketchup freak. We go through ketchup like you wouldn't believe. I finally gave up on the small bottles and went to Sam's for 3 jumbo bottles. That should last us a few weeks.

You've given me another reason to be happy that my kid wants me to make him lunch every day. NASTY.

That is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard. Where do kids get these ideas?

It is more evidence to add to my "kids are assholes" file.
