Defcon4

Gary left this afternoon for some ice fishing with a couple buddies a little north of here. I don't know about the rest of you but it sure seems, to me anyway, that he does alot of traveling for fun, huh? I wish I could go away half as much as he does. In reality, I wouldn't though because I have a hard time leaving Hannah overnight. In fact, I can probably count on one hand the amount of nights since she came home from the hospital as an infant that her and I have been separated.

Anyhoo, to get back to the story...... Mom, Hannah and I are at Pizza Hut. It's Friday night and the place is crankin' busy. I can hardly talk to my mother across the table over the din of noise. I'm sitting there savoring every mouthful of the all mine, heavenly, sinfully delicious pizza.... enjoying only an occasional kick from Hannah in the booth next to me, when Gary's pager goes off. He has the volume on that thing set to a Defcon4 Nuclear Blast (he worked NAVY flightlines for years and wasn't always keen on wearing hearing protection... now we ALL must suffer for it). Holy shit that thing was LOUD!! I grab my cell phone to return the page and notice a new voice mail has come in. I obviously didn't hear the phone ring because of the noise. I feel like I'm sitting in a silent vacuum when I hear his voice in my ear ..... "It's me Hon. Don't worry. (instantly my gut turns to stone) No one got hurt. If you see anything on the news about a snowmobile going through the ice, we are all ok. I just didn't want you to worry or anything. You can call me if you want."

He's ok. He wasn't on the sled.... thank God. Now, not only do I have to worry about my child getting herself hurt in some freak way.... I've got to worry about him too. As a wife and mother.... does it ever end? When does anyone worry about me?

Where did that happen? My worst nightmare is going through the ice. I'm glad no one got hurt.

Worrying now that it will take too long to get to Maine to bail you out of jail when you kill him for making you worry......

Relax...Breathe! He called to tell you he was ok. That's a good thing. He could have let you hear about it on the news and not tell you in person, then you'd be waiting by the second for him to come home. Good for you Gary! As for the worrying, it never ends. I worry every day when Tim leaves the house to make the hour drive to the mill. Guess it's all a part of being a wife and mom. I never get away either...even if I could where in hell would I go. Enjoy your Sunday. Hugs!

No, they're men. They're idiots. It never ends. ((HUGS))

At least he had the common sense to call you so you didn't see it on the news first, which is more than I got when TFB fell into the gorge. (Like when I saw it on the news, I wouldn't immediately look at him and go, "That was you, wasn't it?!")

Here ! (((worry worry worry)))

Ok, now that's out of the way, go slap that man of yours on the back of the head! Ice Fishing! FFS! It's mid March! You don't ice fish in mid March! Jesus! Tell him that the grocery brings in fish almost as fresh every day! Ugh! Men are idiots!

I'm glad he's ok, and that all of his friends are ok, but shit! Slap him twice, once for me too.

My guess is that if Gary got a message like that, that he would have been in a truck on the way home!

One of the women I work with was telling me about a snowmobile accident last week. This warm winter is made it pretty dangerous for people out on the ice this year.

So glad that everyone is ok. How scary for you listening to that message.

I don't think the worry ends until we die.

no, it never ends. hubby is a firefighter. he made the mistake of letting me find out from a fellow firefighter that he had a 50 lb piece of equipment explode at him and miss his face by half an inch. he now tells me when something like that happens. gary was right to call you.
