Slush is Good

How much damage do you think one of these could do at a campfire with a gallon of rum and some friends?

One of the drawbacks that I had about becoming a seasonal camper at a campground was that I was afraid of being lonely or not making friends. I'm pretty much a solitary person and it takes a while for me to allow people into that inner sanction of space that I like to call my own. However, the people at the campground are fun. They welcomed Gary, Hannah and I at their campfires with a hearty 'hello neighbor' and continue to amaze me with their kindness, warmth and generosity.

Southern Maine is full of many people who question motives, want to keep outsiders OUT and don't show much trust in anything. I'm not saying ALL of Southern Maine is like that...... it's just that it IS there and where we live, it's fairly prevalent. Head 2 hours north in Maine and it's a different world. The majority of the people are friendly, open and accepting. We love it.

When I first met our neighbors at the campground I had to assign little nicknames for them in my head to help remember their names. They'd probably get a kick out of knowing that I had to refer to them in my mind as:
  • Gunman Randy
  • Birdlady Anita
  • Racecar Regina
  • Bassman Rodney
  • Doctor Nancy
  • Golfer Chris
  • Earring Ted
  • Workboot Dave
  • Grandma Diane
  • Grandpa Jerry

Rodney and Regina bought one of those Slushmachines at a steal from a friend of theirs who owned a store and was closing it. I think they said it was around $100 (they retail for about $2K!) and I do have to say that it works KICK ASS. The other night, we were sitting around their campfire, sipping on Pina Coladas that were delicious. Each compartment of the machine makes 3 gallons of slush at a time. I'm thinking.... mudslides, daiquiris and coladas.

What would be your choices?

Me I am very simple, just fill one slot with ice and I will pour the whiskey. I am very glad to hear that you are enjoying the summer in a campground. Just picturing it makes me want to visit.

My first choice would be mudslide (I haven't had one of those in years) and my second would be a daiquiris (make my mouth water thinking of them).
I remember going to my grandparents campsite in Sebago for a few weeks every summer. It was great (especially when I could bring a friend). We'd swim all day and at night they would play old movies that were projected onto th e side of the main building. Everyone would bring their lawn chairs or a blanket, popcorn and drink and we'd all watch the movie. I remember seeing The Shaggy DA, Herbie the Love Bug, Herbie Rides Again and Freaky Friday and there are more but I can't remember them right now.
Like you with all your neighbors at camp, my grandparents knew everyone too and everyone was always gathering at someone elses site, eating snacks and having many-a-drinks!
I especially loved all the cool camp lights that were everywhere. That is one of the ways I remembered people.
I'm really glad that your little girls gets to have this experience, she'll always remember camp!!!

Tell Regina for 4th of July next year, blue hawaiis, pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris. Red, white, and blue! Sounds like you had a fun weekend. I LOVE your campsite!

I love a good pina colada, but a mudslide sounds great, too. Can't wait until I am done nursing and can partake in cold yummy drinks.

I love your nicknames. I do this, too.

Yummy...hmmm....my three would be rum runner, rasberry daiquri, and margerita ;-) Heavy on the liquor.

I like English ale and not fruity drinks, but the slush machine looks awesome. I am extremely reclusive to the point of not wanting to be welcomed to a fire. Yikes! Haha.
